Republic. I like the sound of the word. It means people can live free, talk free, go or come, buy or sell, be drunk or sober, however they choose. Some words can give you a feeling that makes your heart warm. Republic is one of those words. - John Wayne

Memo to Muqtada al-Sadr
by Cordeiro
Now that you've rebuffed offers from your countrymen to discuss a peace plan for Najaf and surrounding regions, you have to ask yourself one question.

Do I feel lucky?

Well, do ya? Punk?

You must be feeling pretty lucky, considering you walked away from the last skirmish with only a shrapnel wound in your arm. So, yeah, you're lucky. That said, all good things must come to an end.

Right now, you're staring at the business end of the most powerful, best trained, most heavily armed and lethal fighting force ever assembled on the face of God's green, or in your case sandy, earth. You've bled this force a little. In doing so, you've done something very dangerous.

You've made them angry.

You shouldn't have done that. You won't like them when they're angry.

Now that you've rejected the olive branch from your countrymen, you've made yourself a target. Its only a matter of time before one of your greedy lieutenants gives you up. Any you can rest assured this time it will be more than a piece of shrapnel, and it will find its way to something more vital than your arm.

In short, to quote another great American military leader:

Behold, we will end the conflict.

Here endeth the lesson.

I really enjoyed this post. I agree with you that Sadr is a punk. A real young punk, as in he's only 25-26 years old, according to my very reliable sources. He tries to pass himself off as 30, but in reality he's just a young punk trying to make a name for himself as a radical cleric. He's succeded in making the name, and soon it will look mighty fine on a tombstone.

I can't wait for our Iraqi brethren to put him in his place - the ground.
