Republic. I like the sound of the word. It means people can live free, talk free, go or come, buy or sell, be drunk or sober, however they choose. Some words can give you a feeling that makes your heart warm. Republic is one of those words. - John Wayne

Churchill and Plagiarism: Two Peas in a Pod
by Bonjo
Just when Churchill thought he was having a bad semester at CU.

It seems the self-embattled CU professor is now accused of plagiarism.

Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia sent CU an internal 1997 report detailing allegations about an article Churchill wrote.

"The article ... is, in the opinion of our legal counsel, plagiarism," Dalhousie spokesman Charles Crosby said in summarizing the report's findings.
And not only did Professor Big Chief Runnin' Scared plagiarize someone else's work, he threatened the original author for exposing his dishonesty:

Professor Fay G. Cohen complained that Churchill used her research and writing in an essay without her permission and without giving her credit. Although the investigation substantiated her allegations, Cohen didn't pursue the matter because she felt threatened by Churchill, Crosby said.

Crosby said Cohen told Dalhousie officials in 1997 that Churchill had called her in the middle of the night and said, "I'll get you for this."
(fortunately, not even real indians go around scalping people any more)

So he lies about his military service. He lies about his ancestry. He copies someone else's artwork. Now we find out he plagiarized even more of his "work".

When I went to college, plagiarism was grounds for expulsion. If someone was tempted to plagiarize something, the thought of getting bounced out of school was usually enough to dissuade him/her.

Perhaps CU should consider applying the same standards to its professors, even professors who have the ever-sacred status of "tenure".

I now return to my capitalist endeavors.

I wonder what Ms. Lighting will have to say on this one.
