Airman First Class Elizabeth N. Jacobsen, United States Air Force
Via Blackfive, as most of these posts are, I commend for your reading the farewell to Airman First Class Elizabeth N. Jacobsen, killed while providing security to a convoy on the Kuwaiti/Iraq border on 28 September 2005. She was the first Air Force Security member to be killed in action since the end of the Vietnam War.
The account written by CMSGT Rich Baliko, 17th Security Forces Squadron Superintendent, is particularly detailed and well worth the read. People, especially women like Airman First Class Jacobsen are especially rare. I do not know if we shall see her kind again.
The one thing that struck me especially hard in this glowing tribute were the words of her father:
Do not let the cowards win. Do not let her die in vain.Well said, Mr. Jacobsen.
Here endeth the lesson.
