Republic. I like the sound of the word. It means people can live free, talk free, go or come, buy or sell, be drunk or sober, however they choose. Some words can give you a feeling that makes your heart warm. Republic is one of those words. - John Wayne

E.J. Dionne, Jr Gets It Right...Almost
by Cordeiro
Most of the time I'm very unimpressed with the verbiage spewed forth by Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne, Jr. He's very far off the left end of the political spectrum, and usually he makes no illusions to his political slant.

But even a stopped clock is right twice a day. That may be a little too much for E.J. so I'll limit it to being almost right once.

His latest piece, posted over at RealClearPolitics.com trumpets the need for "Democratic Vision" similar to what Newt Gingrich laid out for the GOP in the 1994 election cycle.

My personal opinion is there is no such vision in the Democratic Party. They have a very thin bench for the upcoming mid-term and presidential election cycle. As far as I can tell, they're going to stick with the tried and failed dogma that has led them to landslide defeats for the past three election cycles.

You're familiar with the worn out one liners:

Bush lied us into War.

Bring the Troops home.

Republicans steal from the poor.

Karl Rove is the Devil Incarnate.
That last one is fictional as far as I can tell, but I'm fairly sure its been proclaimed in the MSM someplace already.

The one nugget of sanity in Dionne's column is his plea for the Democrats not to squander the 2006 opportunity.

It would be a shame if the Democrats' quest for something to say produced only focus-group driven sloganeering and mush.
Memo to Mr. Dionne: That's all the Democratic party has produced over the past 20 some years! Focus-group driven sloganeering defined the Clinton (Sorry Excuse For) Administration. Hell, the guy even took polls on where to vacation. No matter how much lipstick and perfume you put on that Donkey, its still going to be an Ass.

Here endeth the lesson.

Thanks for the lesson.

Other one liners:

Republicans hate women, children and minorities -- probably pets too.

Democrats have good hearts, Republicans don't have them.

Good hearts make good government (and lot's of it)
