Memo To Senator Arlen Specter (r-PA)
It has come to my attention that the Senate Judiciary Committee intend to hold hearings on W's SCOTUS nominee, Judge Samuel Alito. While I am pleased you intend to fulfill your constitutional obligation in doing this, I must protest the fact you intend to hold said hearings in January 2006.
I understand you and your fellow Senators are busy people. You have fundraisers to attend and long, dry, and incredibly boring speeches to give on the Senate floor. In addition to this you obviously have to spend a lot of time working on those Sense of the Senate resolutions extolling the virtues of those who collect aluminum cans for recycling. These responsibilities must be incredibly time consuming.
Never the less, taking two months to hold a simple hearing is outrageous.
I understand the wheels of Washington DC sometimes move slowly. I am not asking you and your fellow senators to do anything above and beyond the call of duty. I am simply asking you to do your job - to do that which the people of Pennsylvania and the United States sent you there to do.
In short, get out of your overstuffed chair, off your self important kiester, and get to work. Now would be a good time.
Here endeth the lesson.
