2005 Election Post Mortem:
No doubt today you will read the MSM trumpeting the success of Democrats in an off year, low turnout election. Yes, Dems did manage to hold on to the Governor's Mansions in Virginia and New Jersey. This actually comes as quite a surprise to Democrats in that, for the first time in several election cycles, they didn't lose. I'm no expert on the down and dirty politics in New Jersey, however I do have some light to shed on the Virginia race.
Tim Kaine did beat Jerry Kilgore by a very unimpressive margin. He ran two different races - one for the conservative outside the beltway Virginia, and another for the beltway Northern Virginia. What remains to be seen is whether or not he can govern out of both sides of his mouth the same way he ran his campaign. Kilgore ran a colossally unimpressive campaign and frankly deserved to lose. That said, Kaine had no coat-tails and was unable to help his fellow Dems capture the Lieutenant Governor or Attorney General seats. The legislature in Richmond is heavily Republican. Good luck, Tim. Don't expect a honeymoon.
Dusty Harry loses his mind.
Via the Blogfather I came across this snippet from Senator Minority Leader Dusty Harry (D-Circus Circus): (Audio available from Radioblogger)
The manipulation of intelligence, to sell the war in Iraq, Vice President Cheney is involved in that. The White House energy policy, that puts Big Oil ahead of the American consumer, Vice President Cheney is behind that. Leaking classified information to discredit White House critics, the Vice President is behind that. Halliburton, contracting abuse, the list goes on and it goes on. Certainly America can do better than that. What did "Big Time" Cheney ever do to Dusty Harry? Was there a scuffle in the Senate Cloakroom? Perhaps Big Time took the last low-fat muffin in the cafeteria.
Whatever the case may be, it is clear Dusty Harry's undergarments are in a very tight wad these days. He is clearly trying to undermine Big Time with allegations that have little foundation in fact. In doing this, Dusty Harry does little more than make himself look like a very poor caricature of a Court Jester.
Yes, Harry, America can do better - better than you.
Just Who Was Lying About Iraqi WMD?
I finally managed to find a writer who has thoroughly researched just exactly who said what when about Iraq's Weapons of Mass Destruction. I submit for your review Norman Podhoretz's latest article in Commentary Magazine.
He cites sources, he cites dates, times, and places. So before you give into the MSM indoctrination that the WMD in Iraq was a issue dreamed up in Crawford as an excuse to take this nation to war, go read Podhoretz. Come back and call me on it when you have refuted every single one of his documented claims with documentation of your own. I figure that should take you a while, so you'll forgive me if I don't hang around and wait for you.
Here endeth the lesson.
