What Numbers Mean
Last night in a truly raucous session on the floor of the House of Representatives, the resolution to immediately withdraw US forces from Iraq went down to defeat - 403-3.
Just so you know who the three Democrats who want to immediately cut and run from Iraq, here they are:
Jose Serrano of New York, Robert Wexler of Florida, and Cynthia McKinney of Georgia.
I have to hand it to those three - at least they vote their mind.
No self respecting politician in his or her right mind would want to go on record in favor of unconditional surrender to Binny Laden and al-Zarqawi. That said, I think it's very important to look at the procedural votes that brought this measure to the floor for the actual vote.
Here's the CSPAN graphic just so you know how it played out.
This records who actually wanted to be put on record for, or against, this measure. In my humble opinion, it records the vote of who supports the troops, and their finishing the mission America sent them to do.
Democrats, as usual, are crying foul. "Bella" Pelosi called the vote "a disgrace". Harold Ford, a blue democrat from the very red state of Tennessee, had to be physically restrained as he charged across the center isle screaming that Republicans were making uncalled-for personal attacks. Marty Meehan was seen yelling "You guys are pathetic! Pathetic!"
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this is the Democratic party - unmedicated, uncensored, unhinged and unrestrained. This is what happens when they are asked to take a public stance on an issue they know the American people do not share. Yes, last night they were united. Every single House Democrat has now been recorded as being in favor of capitulation.
This will not be forgotten in the coming election cycle. And they know it.
Here endeth the lesson.
